I love it for several reasons!
First, there is the reminder that Kailey is an answer to our prayer for our son Andrew to be blessed with a lovely, godly young woman who will be his wife.
The second reason I love this chalkboard creation is that it makes me smile:
The bright colors of the flowers and the butterfly make me smile.
The buzzing bee makes me smile.
The little pig (for us Bacons, of course) makes me smile.
The message makes me smile.
Spring is in the air! The days are getting warmer, and the sun is staying out longer. There are signs of green growing things coming out of the ground. Even the birds seem to be singing louder! Springtime seems to lift the spirits. Have you wondered why?
One of the upsides of this pandemic has been that I have been going outside more often. I know that many of you have been doing that too. Going outside allows us to see this passage of scripture come to life. Psalm 19:1-4 says:
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. (NIV)
What is David saying in the lyrics of this worship song? Well, he says that going outside and seeing God’s creation, specifically the sky and the heavens, provides an opportunity to hear God speak. You can learn something about God by looking up at the skies. Theologians call this General Revelation. God speaks through His creation to all of us.
The other way God speaks is through what is called Special or Specific Revelation. That is when God chooses to communicate specifically to a person through various means with a very specific message to be shared with a specific audience. The Bible is a record of God’s Special Revelation. The Bible is where we can learn what He wants us to know about Him, about ourselves, and about the world.
And what the Bible tells us, which I believe connects with our good vibes of Spring, is this: our God, who raised Jesus from the dead, brings new life to us who were dead in our sins. God turns back the dark winter of our lives and brings forth the new life of Spring.
The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. - Lamentations 3:22-23 NASB
Spring is a reminder that our God is a God of grace and compassion. He is a God who brings us out of the darkness and into the light if we believe in the one He sent - Jesus. He is a God who brings life from death.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
Welcome Spring! It is time to get busy living. Living by faith in Jesus.
