Resurrection

April 25, 2019 | Didi Bacon

What a wonderful Easter season at Mount Carmel Christian church! It began on Saturday, April 13, with our “Rise Up with Jesus” celebration with parents and children. To hear the reports and to see the pictures of everyone jumping and dancing for joy at the closing of the event because Jesus is alive was so very exciting. On Good Friday with a packed sanctuary, it was so moving to be reminded that we don’t live in the shadow of the cross but the light of the resurrection! Then on Sunday, to have four services to gather to celebrate the end of our journey through the story of Jesus as told in the Gospel of Mark, with the good news that Jesus has conquered death, all I can say is - “Boom celebrate!”

Resurrection, as Tim Keller puts it, is what makes Christianity the most irritating religion on the face of the earth. This is because the trend today is to decide what to believe about religion by reading it and saying I like it or I don't like it. So some might say, "Well, I could never be a Christian. Because there are parts of the Bible, I find offensive." They don’t like what the Bible says about money or women or sex. But here is the thing about this approach when it comes to Christianity, what you like or dislike about the teachings of the Bible has nothing with the claim that Jesus has been raised from the dead. Every part of the Bible is important, but if you put the ethical teaching aside for a minute: If Jesus was raised from the dead, you're going to have to deal with everything in the Bible. Paul who was once Saul was more offended by Christianity than most. He was killing Christians because of it! But when he realized Jesus had been raised, it didn't matter what offended him anymore. It didn't matter, because it was true.

Jesus rose from the dead. I believe it. I am with Him. I hope you are too.
