God is on the Move!

January 13, 2021 | Didi Bacon

"'They say Aslan is on the move- perhaps has already landed.' And now a very curious thing happened. None of the children knew who Aslan was any more than you do; but the moment the Beaver had spoken these words, everyone felt quite different. Perhaps it has sometimes happened to you in a dream that someone says something which you don't understand but in the dream it feels as if it has some enormous meaning- either a terrifying one which turns the whole dream into a nightmare or else a lovely meaning too lovely to put into words, which makes the dream so beautiful that you remember it all your life and are always wishing you could get into that dream again. It was like that now. At the name of Aslan each one of the children felt something jump in its inside. Edmund felt a sensation of mysterious horror. Peter felt suddenly brave and adventurous. Susan felt as if some delicious smell or some delightful strain of music had just floated by her. And Lucy got the feeling you have when you wake up in the morning and realize that it is the beginning of the holidays or the beginning of summer." ― C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

C.S. Lewis wrote The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as an allegory of the story of Jesus. The Bible calls the story of Jesus good news. It is good news because God has provided a way for us to be right with him through faith in Jesus. The phrase, "Aslan is on the move," describes the return of the great lion, a Christ-type character, to the country of Narnia. Narnia was under siege by the power of the witch Queen, who had cursed the land to be locked in never-ending winter. Aslan's return signaled the end of winter. It sealed the doom of the evil witch.

It may feel that we are under a siege of sorts these days. A winter with no hope of Spring. But I want you to know that "God is on the move!" If you take a moment each day to be still, to be still and know God in prayer, in scripture study, and in giving your God gifts to bless another, you will see God on the move! God sightings like this email I received yesterday (Used by permission - I have made changes to protect the identity of the sender):

Didi:

About two months ago, I read Hebrews (I had read it before). I told my wife, I am re-reading this book over and over again, pounding it into my stubborn brain and soul.

Each time I finished reading it (6-7 times), I was disappointed. Disappointed that the next reading (of the Bible) didn't smack me in the face like Hebrews did. It was back to re-reading Hebrews.

My wife and I share the frustration of feeling that our two kids aren't where we want them to be (rambling off a little bit, here). We feel like we have become inadequate, watered down, believers. Hebrews (to me) says DO SOMETHING! I began praying to God (my prayer life and Bible study is weak, I confess), every day --"Help me to make a difference. in someone's life, in anyone's life, in my children's life, in my granddaughter's life, in my tennis friends' lives." Every night --same prayer. After about two weeks, my wife brought me a "flier" made up by a little known neighbor (tucked into our door handle— our daughter had babysat for them, years ago). The flier indicated the husband (of the person who had created the flier) was going to die if he did not get a kidney. Right away, my wife asked, "what do you think". I told her God was telling me, in answer to my prayers to (it was so good to feel his presence) "DO SOMETHING. Two weeks went by as I pondered, dreading doing something. I discussed with my wife that it was time for me to call and start the process of giving one of my kidneys (when I was born, my mother lost one of her kidneys because of my birth--I had some experience of one kidney life, indirectly. Mom died from renal-kidney- failure at the age of 92) My wife said "are you sure about this." I said, I don't have any choice. It is what God wants me to do. I am scheduled to go for blood analysis--the first step…

Wow! God is on the move. His work involves His Children saying yes to His invitation into the family business. God's plan to free the world from the winter of sin and death is for those of us who follow Him to be faithful where we are in loving others. God is on the move! Look for the signs.

"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins."  2 Peter 1:3-9 NIV
